Atikokan old timers hockey

The oldtimer's hockey (liniment League Hockey assoc.) started in Atikokan in the winter of 1969-70 It was made up of players who were 30 years old at the start of the season, there was at least one who fudged his age a bit to get to play. There was no body checking and no slapshots, this made it appealing to play with a reduced threat of injury. Those below the age of 30 played in the intermediate league and of course there were the Junior hockey players and the Figure skaters. The arena was a very busy place in the winter. This site will cover the oldtimer's hockey for 20 odd years. I will also cover the intermediate league, when the two leagues were combined for one season. A lot of time has passed since the 1970 start. The players who started to play at 30 years old are now now 76 years old. Some of the players were in their 40s and 50s when they joined the league and are in their 80s and beyond now. ©rhl
